I’m looking at a 996tt being sold at a Porsche dealership up in Colorado. This is the kind of car you really want an extensive inspection of beforehand, and the dealership would otherwise be a good candidate for doing it.
The obvious concern is if they’ll be honest about the car. I’m skeptical but maybe that’s unfounded.
Any thoughts? Are there other sorts of places I should look for for a PPI?

Try an indy.

Cant trust a thing. They do bare minimum to pass state inspection, and often just barely at that. If you can get an indy to tag along and look, do so.

Take it to an independent source for inspection. Even if it cost a $100, it is likely to be money well spent.

My car was looked over extensively and given the annual safety inspection by the dealer. Haven’t had a single issue yet. Although my car is just a cheap little hatchback.

It never hurts to get a second opinion. Also, make sure to ask for the dealer tech’s actual inspection sheet and original repair order, that will show you exactly what the tech found regardless of what sales is telling you.

if he’s getting a PPI that includes a leakdown test, expect it to be closer to $700 than $100. still a lot cheaper than replacing a motor.
